Back when I was looking to buy a new house, one of my friends took me over to a little neighborhood in South Minneapolis north of Lake Street. I didn't have a clue that this little, historic, pedestrian neighborhood even existed. I loved the street. A few days ago I ran across this You Tube video put together by some local students.

I have some friends who live on Milwaukee Ave and it is a truly lovely spot, as you say. The homes are charming and the linear park that replaced the road is a tremendous community-building amenity. It's a wonder the city or neighborhoods haven't done more to replicate the features of Milwaukee Ave in other areas in the 30+ years since this preservation initiative.
Josh - I just loved what it took to save that street. All that before historic restoration of houses was even really a concept.
