Something for Nothing

Just loosely house related. But, I like it when I can scam a deal. Bought four pounds of grapefruit and sent off the receipt and a coupon I found in a magazine a few weeks ago. Today my free grapefruit spoons arrived.

Those look just like our "nice" flatware when I was a kid. My mom saved the box tops and had one place setting sent to 8 different addresses (of friends, neighbors and relatives). it was our first set of all matching silverware.

You are going to need something bigger than those to dig that body out of your basement!

Ryan - That would be something I would do. I wish they still had Green Stamps. The spoons I got are actually Onida, so they are ok quality.

Gary - Lol, ain't that the truth. I'll have to watch for the Florida Citrus - free jackhammer w/ purchase promo ;-)

In 1985 or '86 my husband & I went to the track - Julie Krone was riding that night and my husband intended to win big backing her. I'm only a two-dollar bettor but I use a very scientific method - birthdays, the color of the horse, etc. I bet 5-4-8 on a trifecta and won $3,500. I used part of the money on Oneida stainless and bought a complete set for 12 including seafood forks, iced tea spoons & grapefruit spoons. I am always amazed at how well the grapefruit spoons work, you'll love them.

Cute! I've never eaten grapefruit with a grapefruit spoon... it's probably easier than my method. Mine is very Zen, though... I sit and carefully slice along each membrane to loosen each slice. :)

Kathy - I love that story :-) I would love to have ice tea spoons. My flatware was purchased when I was in my twenties and working at Daytons (now Macy's) to put myself through school. I think I have 24 place settings (such was the employee discount). It's in a style I would never buy now and sadly, doesn't include seafood, grapefruit nor ice tea spoons.

Jennifer - Funny, I eat my grapefruit like and orange. Slowly peeling the skin off of each slice. It takes forever. You are right....very zen.
